Issued on 12.2.1998 this single stamp was issued to promote Switzerland's bid for the 2006 Winter Olympics. The bid came second when put to the vote, the Olympics being awarded to Turin (Torino) in Italy, not too far from the Swiss city of Sion, which was to be the base had the Olympics gone to Switzerland.
